MMOs
Massive Multiplayer Online Games

Have you ever been sitting at home and had nothing to do? Have you sat in your chair by the window and blankly stared outside as the rain falls around the window? Well, early in the 21st century a new wave struck bored teens and pulled them into their grasp so far, some were lost in it. Yes, I'm talking about the oh so popular MMOs. Games like World of Warcraft, Everquest, and Lord of the Rings Online have swept teens and adults away. For a company such as Blizzard to come up with World of Warcraft wasn't much of a surprise, considering they have produced amazing games, such as Diablo and Starcraft. That is, until just recently they announced over ten million subscribers. That number is calculated of just ACTIVE people playing. Folks, I don't know about you but MMOs are probably the worst kinds of games out there. If you want to 'socialize' go out and get a job and friends and stop spending 60 hours on your character. As for you farmers out there, you all need to just go, shut up and most of all GET A LIFE. You are the most ANNOYING people I've ever dealt with. You all need to shove your ads where we won't ever see them again.
Well I guess we should go a little more into gold farming now that I've ranted enough. Gold farming is the increasing thorn in the side of the major companies such as Aeria, Sony, Turbine and Blizzard. I for one, hate gold farmers. They are annoying and 90% of them end up riping you off in one way or another. It can range from, "Oh yeah, sorry I forgot you meant 5m not 50k." You then find yourself alone whilst he has logged off. Another is they could just never show up and they leave you wondering if they ripped you off or they were just sick and forgot about you. Personally they and the other people who, sorry you professional Korean gamers, have no lives really annoy me when I just try to play a game and they are so smug and full of themselves with their level 70 character.
Sure I've played some MMOs. For example I've played Last Chaos. Well for starters, their PvP system isn't that great. So when I would walk out of town I would be killed or stalked and then get killed. Then it got to the point where the GMs got ban crazy (seems to happen to every game I play) so I ended up quitting when all the non-hackers (my friends) were banned.
Another reason MMOs are really stupid is why the heck would I pay for a game, install it, then pay for the game again every month? Well if you are wondering the same question and disapprove, then don't try to buy WoW. They have such a massive online community it isn't even funny. You used to hear about guys going out and spending their month on booze and women but now you see teens spending money on MMOs and going out and buying another game for another cd key to escape that ban. I personally am against buying something and investing into it constantly with little to no gain. I mean if you do the math for buying and playing WoW you come out with paying $195 a year at $15 a month and $15 for the game. Also don't factor out the amount of your time, which I hope is priceless to you, you spend on these pointless unrealistic MMOs. There are also those kids who literally grew up on these games and know really nothing other then MMOs and some have died over them. I think they are just a bad idea and should be avoided.
Well I can hear you all saying but they expand your mind and give you that 'second life' everyone has looked for since the beginning of time. You can also socialize with others from all around the world too! Don't forget all that Taylor. Oh but lets sit back and look at all this. Well expanding your mind can be done with any game or activity. For example portal involves the user in multiple activities that makes them react to problems some immediately and others with some care and thought. Folks, if you want a second life, maybe you should just go earn enough money like Bill Gates and you can take year long vacations and have others run the company while your gone.
Well talking to people around the world is pretty cool but personally I would much rather meet the person to face and learn their culture. But then again I could always go play Second Life which is, in my opinion, much different from the traditional MMO. I guess you could still call it an MMO but it has broken and leaped over boundaries. Like for example, there are companies using it for advertisements and people advertising it for their actual products. You converse with people and you can edit your character to mirror yourself and you engage in things you normally couldn't do in your life. That last statement I would like to add that the 'things' you are doing mean real things not shooting arrows at goblins. Plus you can actually invest..yes invest money into the game and make a profit over time from exchanging game money for real money.
Also, why would you want to give your money to companies that benefit from your addiction or 'fun'? Maybe we should all get lives and work on becoming a Bill Gates with that money rather then give it to him.
I will tell you one thing though. The only game that I really enjoyed in the MMO field was Last Chaos. Even though that game's community was terrible they still had a good idea going. They provided a free game you could download but included a unique store which included the games rarest items and unique items. They also provided good customer service and the admins were good until they got ban crazy when they finally noticed people could hack their game and they wiped the smug smile from their faces.
So really to finish what I'm trying to say up. I'm just saying that MMOs really aren't all that great with the hackers, gold farmers, unreliable admins, companies who look out for themselves, and those losers who think they are so much better then the average weekend warrior who just wants to have a fun time playing the game. I think that if we could all just get lives and become 'civil' people we would lead a better life. Although if you want some adventure or action you could watch some tv or read a book, lol.
I'd just like to leave you with one thing. Go spend your money on a girlfriend or go outside and watch your first sunrise because it might do you some good when you are 40 years old and have never been laid (remind you of anything?). Oh and for all you who DO have lives, why don't you just quit WoW now while your ahead and save yourself while you can before you are dragged under by its everlasting hold on you.
